Australia shares retreat 0.6 pct, miners weak
MELBOURNE, April 23 (Reuters) - Australian stocks dropped 0.6 percent on Friday as banks retreated and weaker base metals prices put pressure on mining stocks.

The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO was down 31.4 points at 4,876.0 at 0015 GMT.

New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index .NZ50 rose 15.3 points to 3,302.8. (Reporting by Victoria Thieberger; editing by Narayanan Somasundaram)
